12th NEUROSURGICAL MICROVASCULAR WORKSHOP , 22.05.2024 - 23.05.2024, Plzeň / Czech Republic

Invitation

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to invite you to the 12th NEUROSURGICAL MICROVASCULAR WORKSHOP which will be held in Plzeň on May 22-23, 2024.The organizers moved meeting from traditional place – The Institute of Parasitology, the Academy of Sciencies of the Czech Republic, České Budějovice to the Biomedical Center, Faculty of Medicine in Plzeň, Charles University this year. The reason is simple, Microvascular workshop will be satellite precongress activity of the Czech National Skull Base Congress, which will be held on May 23-25, 2024 in Plzeň.

First, allow us to thank the expert guarantor: prof. Martin Sames, President of the Czech Neurosurgical Society for his inspiration and support of the workshop. No less important for the existence of the meeting is the technical background provided this year by the Biomedical Center and the Institute of Patophysiology, Faculty of Medicine in Plzeň, Charles University. We would like to use this opportunity and thank the director of BC prof. M. Štengl and the head of the Institute of Patophysiology prof. J. Cendelin for their assistance, which is vital for the organization of the workshop.

The microsurgical techniques are very important for the development of neurosurgical skills in the aneurysm and the AVM surgery for example. The experiments in microvascular anastomosis represent an ideal opportunity for such training. In the light of recent acute ischaemic stroke treatment and early prevention, the clinical indications of EC-IC bypass are being reconsidered. A limited number of the procedures may be performed in selected subgroups of ischaemic stroke patients regardless of COSS study results. All neurosurgeons should be technically equipped for this situation. Moreover, results of EMIAS study open new field of bypass surgery in acute stage of ischaemic stroke. The purpose of our workshop is to provide training for those trainees or specialists who want to improve their microsurgical technical skills.

These famous neurosurgeons participated in the past workshops. The professors Juha Hernesniemi, Cornelius Tulleken, Tomohiro Inoue, Christopher Loftus and Juraj Steno among the others.

This year it is a great pleasure for us to invite the professor David J. Langer, Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Lennox Hill Hospital, New York, USA, and the professor Fady Charbel, Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery, UIC University Chicago, USA.

Due to the limited capacity of the facilities, the organizers unfortunately had to limit the number of participants and therefore kindly ask for applications to send to the address of the organizing committee.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Plzeň.

Sincerely,

Vladimír Přibáň and Jiří Fiedler
